Make your own news report
News can cover as big or small an area as you like. You could do a news report for your friends, your family, your neighbourhood, the children in your village or cover a larger area, or do a news sheet which will have something appealing for everyone.
For example- your FRIENDS would probably like to know who is around to play with when, about any sports or other activities, things to do or places to go with parents at the weekends, any super things on the TV or films at the cinema, and so on.
Your FAMILY, and especially older people like grandparents who live away, would love to hear what the rest of your family at home have been up to lately. You could include photos, poems you or brothers and sisters have written, as well as actual news. You could also act as a contact point if your family is spread about the country, and do a regular monthly newsletter on what everyone has been up to.
MUMS in the locality where you live would probably like to know which supermarket has the cheapest beans. You could do a chart of a lot of favourite children's foods and where they are cheapest. Your news sheet could also include the best places to go for a hamburger, any other local attractions, when the children go back to school, what they need to take with them etc.
COST-You might be able to persuade some of the local shops to sponsor you, or put in an advert for their shop and pay you. Photocopying costs money, but you may be able to get this at a discount. You could also charge a few pence for your news sheet- a lot of people will be very pleased by your enterprising spirit and will be happy to pay. Look in shop window and include details of jumble sales, seasonal fairs, amateur dramatic productions etc. Have a 'wanted' column and a 'for sale' column- you can charge a few pence for these too.
SAFETY- When selling your news sheet, always ask an adult at home if its OK to do so.
