Water Slides (for hot summer days)
WaterSlides - Absolutely great fun for summer days

Suitable age group 5 upwards. Slide can be made more exciting for older children by higher angle of start slide and longer length of Visqueen.

This makes use of a long length of the blue plastic sheeting builders use for damp proof membranes - (Trade name Visqueen - probably spelt differently). When wetted this makes an absolutely fantastic horizontal slide right across the garden.

You can get a length of this from a builders merchants or even a builder may have a length surplus to requirements. About four feet wide minimum, you can fold it to this and this makes it have ledges each side to hold water, and as long a length as you can manage - we had one 15 yards long.
Make sure there are no joins -all one piece - and NO CUTS or RIPS as these can cut into the skin.

Lay the Visqueen out on the lawn and use a piece of board and an old stool or box at the top end to raise it like a slide to give the momentum. We used to use three bales of straw. A hose pipe needs fastening here to provide a steady flow of water over the Visqueen though you could have somebody constantly spraying it - (and the kids) - great fun!

Kids need to be in swimming costumes with as much skin exposed as possible as skin, water and Visqueen make the best friction free combination.

We once had a full afternoons birthday party based on our water slide - nobody got fed up and even the adults thought it was great!

SAFETY - No CUTS, RIPS OR TEARS in the Visqueen AND NO SLIDING STANDING UP. This slide is so slippery and fast your feet will go faster than your body.
