Holiday Boredom Busters for Kids | home
Bug hunt
Get your child to search for bugs in ponds, gardens, paths, in the soil or even grass. They will find many discoveries like bugs they have never seen before!!
Safety First- Water is dangerous, so if going near a pond or stream, however small, ensure they are safe with adult supervision or older children present.Children should always tell an adult where they are going, and agree an estimated time of arrival at home.
Collecting the bugs
Use whatever containers you have available. They could take an old bucket, plastic containers or anything similar. You can make nets out of some old tights and an old wire coat hanger!!
Small boxes are useful- keep bugs separate as they might just eat each other! If they are found on leaves, bring some of these too
Go the library and find some books about the bugs-before you go or afterwards. You could also get some information about them on the net. At home, draw them or keep them in suitable conditions for a couple of days to observe them.
